I can't blame his choice of gifts, though. It's surprising how much of a difference simple comforts can make. A good meal, pleasant surroundings, nice scents... I find myself relying on such things when I'm in a darker place.

About the strategies his unit employs in the violent games. I cannot in good conscience approve of them. And even though I... understand with my mind why they choose to play in such a way, I cannot understand it with my heart.

Does it disturb you? That they'd be willing to use such methods.

... Not as such. What does make me upset is that they act so... unconcerned about it. That... just because they think their choices justified, or because they didn't have another choice... the suffering that results from it doesn't matter much. That it is right to play so brutally.

[He shakes his head, clearly annoyed]

And just because their unit used to be villainized, they seem to think it fine to play to that stereotype. In the end, I don't understand it.

That is how we live with the things we have done. By letting ourselves care less.

It was a stroke of luck Emet-Selch decided to reach out to me in the end. It was on the same day that I'd decided that in order for me to still fit in with them, I would need to learn to care less as well.

Believe. You need not understand our methods or agree with them, but believe that all we do is for the sake of our people. Believe that by Lord Zodiark's grace, we will be saved.

Levity closes his eyes, trying to find the answer. After all this time in Imeeji, witnessing the cruelty of games and the mortal worlds... the well of desperation does run deep. Wouldn't it be nice to believe in a higher power? To know that you are protected, that there is something out there, looking out for you, that it's going to be all right?

Deep down, he wants to believe. Perhaps not directly in Zodiark - his feelings on the matter are complicated, - but in the salvation of his people, in the return home, in kindness and peace and harmony being in the nature of the universe.

He breathes out quietly, holding Elidibus a little tighter.]

You need not force yourself should you find you cannot. But... if you can have even a little hope in us - in me - it will be a great help.
