[You are greeted with the sound of randomly disrupted static, at the end of which three melodic beeping signals are heard. Yep, that's your cue to leave a message!]

Somehow I had rather forgotten quite how much mischief you do like to get up to.

Anyone can be moody.

I'll have you know you'll find no greater optimist than myself.

Can parents not be optimists?

Optimism is a mindset. It has nothing to do with one's demeanor. That is like saying someone is too energetic to be pessimistic. And I assure you I've known my share of laughing nihilists.

Or looked at another way, despite her energy and enthusiasm, Lily is quite the pessimist in some areas, and in contrast, Five's optimism defies all reason, though he is surly.

Either. They are both a kind of optimism. I believe the second a bit more realistic of an appproach and the first a bit more self-delusional, but they both count.

Mm. Indeed. It takes some amount of willingness to push through for a better result to make it against adversity I believe. Simply expecting things to work out without thinking that you must contribute to seeing that they do is... a mindset. But not one that will see one very far, in general.

But the self-determination to believe things can improve is a point most people here have to some degree, if only from necessity. The other option is to embrace nihilism, and while that works for some, most would rather cling to some hope of their actions mattering.
