Current Characters: N/A
Character Name: Hythlodaeus
Character Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon Point: Ye Olden Times during his life
Age: Not stated, but probably at least a few hundred years.
Crime: Breaking his promise to his best friends and leaving for the afterlife without them.
Background: Wiki link! Please let me know if it's sufficient or if more elaboration is needed.
Personality: Hythlodaeus is cheerful, easygoing, and a little mischievous, but also steadfast and very devoted to his friends (most of all Azem and Hades). Those two are a big part of his life and the focal point of his character, to the point that Hythlodaeus sees the meaning of his life in helping them realize their potential, and the three even make a promise to only depart for the afterlife (they are mostly immortal, so death is kind of a personal choice) together. As the "supporter" of the trio, Hythlodaeus tends to downplay his own strengths; he gives up the position of Emet-Selch to Hades (believing him to be the better candidate) remarks that he is "a complete pedastrian" when it comes to using magic, and tends to make self-deprecating jokes about his prowess in battle (they are completely unsubstantiated).
His personality is most starkly visible in his interactions with Hades, serving as a kind of foil to his best friend; while Hades is serious and no-nonsense to the point of being terse, Hythlodaeus is always light-hearted in his banter, sociable and quick-witted. That's just the surface layer, though; Hythlodaeus is also very perceptive and persuasive, talking people around to his point of view and oftentimes thinking ahead of their reaction. While he loves his people and cares about them, Hythlodaeus is also a little distant on some level, and certainly less empathic than his friends (for example, he cheerfully describes someone's idea as being absolutely useless, but mentions not saying that to their face because he was also endeared by their enthusiasm). He generally prefers to take the role of the bystander, the observer, the supporter and to some minor degree, and in certain circumstances, the manipulator; the writer for the series describes him as someone who could be scary when you think about it. Hythlodaeus describes death as something beautiful to watch (much to the dismay of another character); though he is by no means evil or violent, he views the world differently enough to be unsettling to others if it's ever not offset by his social butterfly nature.
Hythlodaeus also doesn't hold much regard for rules and focuses on the end result instead; in one instance he provides Azem with highly classified information (which he shouldn't), just so that they can go punch a volcano without waiting to consult with their colleagues (which Azem shouldn't).
Abilities: Seeing the souls of other people and the aetheric (magic-molecular) composition of objects. He is also a very skilled archer and, despite his words, can cast some pretty powerful battle-oriented magic: such as imbuing his arrows with elemental force to make his shots more powerful, creating a very strong explosion (or a line of them), and healing someone to full health or bringing them to consciousness from a faint. In terms of impact power, he could probably destroy and level one or two-storey buildings (like a farm house or a cottage), possibly something bigger if he put his back into it. His restorative powers are inferred from in-game abilities which don't get a proper explanation and serve a gameplay function more so than anything else; in reality, it probably means that he can quickly heal wounds that can heal on their own (so lost limbs or lethal wounds are beyond his capability).
Inventory: Just his clothes (black robe, white mask) and possibly his bow.
Samples: TDM post one and TDM post two.
Questions: None that I could think of right now!
